DAY 06
COMPETITIVE 211 KM
LIAISON 156 KM

TOTAL FOR THE DAY 367 KM

STAGE 1
TC 13 Meshinani Gate to Elenkay
Competitive: Distance: 53.20 KM

Glen’s comments:
This stage was quite tricky. The road was very rocky and you had to drive very carefully. It then got faster. Sadly, we blew a rear right shock absorber when a 50 cent circlip blew off. It sprayed shock absorber oil all over the inside of the windscreen. Not only did we have to slow down for the shock absorber but we also couldn’t see. Fortunately, that happened 10km from the end of the stage. We lost between 3-6 minutes due to that issue though unfortunately.

We changed the shock absorber in service but then had a starter problem and had to replace that as well. That’s the 4th starter since the rally started! We think it’s an overheating problem as the starter is very close to the engine and it’s not getting enough air.

STAGE 2

TC 14 - EMUKUTAN TO IMBIRIKANI
Competitive: Distance: 70.87 KM

Glen’s comments:

The beginning of the stage was very fast, but still quite rocky, so we had to be careful. A lot of people had punctures in that section. We did not. Had a good clean drive through the first quarter. Around the hill there was a lot of lava rock and pesh pesh. We were very careful not to go off the track as there were lots of hidden dangers. In the last quarter of the stage, the road opened up and we were able to stretch the car and increase our speeds. Nobody caught us in that stage. In fact we took time off of others.

STAGE 2

TC 15 - ISINETI TO AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK
Competitive Distance: 87.40 KM

Glen’s comments:

Much faster stage, which suited the Porsches and other more powerful cars more than us. However, we were able to hold our own and we took even more time off those behind us. Even though this was a slightly longer stage, we didn’t have any problems at all in this stage..

Overall it was a very good day and the car performed very well.
