Why Should I bother to take a Defensive Driving Course? I already know how to drive and I’m a good driver.
Most people think that they are good drivers. They justify it by saying, “I can get a vehicle from point A to point B without any difficulties.” However, the below statistics reflect otherwise. In an emergency situation an average driver’s skill set fails at only 40% of the vehicle’s capabilities.
Most drivers only get one chance to receive Driver Development Training throughout their entire driving lives. However, this is normally the instruction they receive in preparation to sit a Learner Driver test and hopefully pass a very basic exam in their own country. However, this is not sufficient to give them the lifelong skills they will need.
In a driver’s employment, the driver will inevitably be subjected to driving situations that were not catered for in the learner driving course and test. These situations dictate the future experience and the vulnerability of the driver, passengers, and any loads they carry.
The Glen Edmunds Advanced Driving Courses are specially designed to improve your driving skills and teah you the necessary techniques to react correctly when faced with an emergency situation.
World Statistics:
One of the highest risk activities we can undertake is to drive a motor vehicle. The World Health Organization reports that each year, nearly 1.35 million people die and between 20 million and 50 million more are injured as a result of road crashes. More than 93 per cent of these deaths occur in low-income and middle-income countries, which have less than 60% of the world’s vehicles. Road traffic injuries are among the three leading causes of death for people between 5 and 29 years of age.
Kenya Statistics
The World Health Organization reports: Road traffic crashes are a top-five cause of death for Kenyans between the ages of five and 70, and the leading killer of boys aged 15-19. Read more here.
Kenya is currently ranked no 12 in the world for having the highest road traffic accidents (2020). In 2017, The World Health Organization’s global survey of road safety reported that 13,463 Kenyans died in road crashes. That equates to an average of 37 people per day. Compare that to the United Kindgom’s statistic of only 1,793 deaths in the same year, which equates to 5 per day.
