DAY 04 EAST AFRICAN SAFARI CLASSIC RALLY 2022
The organisers describe today as: The longest day in the Classic rally , with a mammoth 677km to be complete, all in one day. Many roads have not been used in the rally for decades. A true test of stamina for the competitors.
DAY 04
COMPETITIVE 252 KM
LIAISON 424 KM
TOTAL 677 KM
STAGE 1
TC 10 ISHIARA TO KAMUWONGO
Competitive Distance: 78.28 KM
Glen reports the following:
Since the last big service yesterday afternoon in Nanyuki allowed the mechanics to sort out the suspension issues, this first stage went very well and we had a good run.
However, our team mate, Iain Dobson, rolled his car in the section and is out of the rally completely. Fortunately, Iain and his navigator were unharmed during the incident.
STAGE 2
TC 11 MWINGI TO ZOMBE
Competitive Distance: 74.30 KM
The stage was cancelled due to safety reasons. Apparently since it was a Sunday, there were a lot of vehicle traffic as well as motorcycle taxis (boda bodas), and pedestrians on the roads. Competitors were instructed to drive through the stage but not to exceed 80 Kilometres per hour.
Glen reports: As we passed through one of the villages, children threw rocks at our car. This was surprising as usually everyone is cheering and waving when we pass by.
STAGE 3
TC 12 KYULULU MARKET TO ITHUMBA
Competitive Distance: 100.27 KM
This stage was also cancelled but we aren’t sure why at this juncture.
End of Day
The team members are safely at their respective hotels at Amboseli National Park this evening. Tomorrow, 14th of February is a well deserved and much needed rest day for all competitors.
