DAY 2

Glen Edmunds relays the following information about the Day 02 of the East African Safari Classic rally:
STAGE 1:
TC4 Ol Kalou to Ndaragwa
Length: 49.54km
We knew that the first two days of the rally were going to be difficult for us. Since we are such a small car with only a 1400cc engine, the engine struggled with all the hills in this section. In addition, the bigger cars used their power climbing which pulled rocks into the road. That combined with gnarly holes made it very difficult for us. I tried to drive in such a way as to preserve the car the best I could.
STAGE 2:
TC5 Laikipia West to Moguni (furthest point north in the rally
Length: 100.33km
At first it was smooth and flowing. However about 70km in it got very rough, bumpy and unpredictable. The car was bouncing all over the place. That’s where the suspension issues started. I think they just overheated.
Just as we pulled into the Service point, the gearbox went (or so we thought). So the mechanics did a gearbox change which ate a lot of time. We also changed the back two shock absorbers. It came to light that it wasn’t the gearbox after all, but a gear lever bush!
STAGE 3:
TC 6: Ol Polei to Loldaiga
Length: 92.27km
This was a much better, faster and flowing stage. However, we were still nursing the car the entire way through.
