04 November, 2021

Today, our CEO, Glen Edmunds, two time Safari Rally Champion ,and his experienced navigator, Jiri Kotek, from the Czech Republic, started the first day of the East African Mini Classic Safari Rally. Due to Covid travel restrictions, the main 8-day event originally scheduled for November 2021 will now be held in February 2022.  The “Mini” Classic is a 3-Day event giving participants a great opportunity to test their vehicles prior to the main event.

Glen is driving a ŠKODA 130 LR. This is the first time that this car has ever appeared in Africa.  However, it is not a stranger to tough conditions having recently completed the Dakar Classic Rally with very good results.  Glen was very impressed with the car during the pre-event test phase.

Glen retired from his successful rally career in 2001 and is very excited to be behind the wheel of a rally car again. He often gets asked why he choose this team and this year to make a come back?

·       Jiri Kotek has been “chasing Glen to do this” for numerous years.  When ŠKODA decided to come to Kenya this year with a two car team it took Glen’s interest especially since the event will be factory supported.

·       New Team

·       Challenge of driving a completely different car that has never been seen in Africa before.

·       The offer from the ŠKODA team was too good to turn down.

·       Why not a more powerful machine? Glen wanted a new challenge and something totally different.

For anyone that wants to follow the results of the event, please log onto the official website: East African Safari Classic Rally and click on the Mini Classic tab. You can also follow the event and Glen Edmunds on social media.

We wish Glen Edmunds and Team ŠKODA all the best for this exciting event!
